Day 2 – Frankfort to Reitz
Day 2 is when things start to hot up among the racing snakes and where the peaceful journey through the heart of the North Eastern Free State continues for those not in a hurry. Compared to other days it is relatively shorter at 93km.
One of the highlights of the day will include the new trails leading up to water point 1 on Johan du Plessis’s land and the festive water point 1 hosted by the Skurwekop Farmers Association (local farmers). It’s so good you might end up staying there too long!
The single trails through Aubrey and Muller Starck are a welcome relief from long stretches of farm road and the famous Boerbull Descent into Reitz is a special section of happiness.Read more
This is when the racing begins. Keep your legs fresh for the 10km of flowing single-track at the end. Enjoy the best of the eastern Free State.

Founded in 1889 the town was previously known as Singer’s Post; its name was changed to Amsterdam, and again to its current name Reitz after the Orange Free State president, Francis William Reitz.
Reitz is the HQ of the VKB, one of South Africa’s biggest Co-ops. The town also boasts the largest maize silos in the southern hemisphere and is a major maize growing community.
Hoërskool Reitz will prepare Lamb on the spit and other delicious food, while you relax in the famous showgrounds in our chill zones. For this school like, Hoërskool Wilgerivier, joberg2c is also their biggest source of outside funding apart from school fees. joberg2c has become an essential part of their revenue for the year.
The North Eastern Free State hospitality is exceptional. Communities like Reitz pride themselves on ensuring you leave with incredible memories. Our thanks to Pieter and his wonderful crew who make it possible.
