Reason to ride joberg2c

A few words of persuasion

Some people need a reason to ride while others ride for no rhyme or reason. This motivation might sway those sitting on the fence. The fence is not a great place to sit especially if it is a barbed wire fence, so make your move.

1. See South Africa from a different perspective

From Day one, this has been the joberg2c promise: the route is king! Riders of joberg2c are privileged enough to ride through some of the most spectacular rural lands that South Africa has to offer. Riders traverse four provinces in nine scenically different days; from the rocky highveld of Gauteng to the dry grasslands and maizelands of the Free State to the spectacular descent down the Drakensberg into Kwa-Zulu Natal, back up into the mist belt of Nottingham Rd which finally navigates through the breathtaking Umkomaas valley to the sea; you have plenty of adventure ahead of you!

2. Ride over mountains, through valleys and along glorious sections of single-track

These are sections of the route which make joberg2c spectacular, and reason enough to ride. From the Vaal crossing on boats, to the highest point on Mt. Paul, descending the escarpment via Great Wall My China to the historic Spioenkop Mountain, Farmer Glen’s innovative bridges and the Umkomaas Drop – this ride offers a special concoction of trails , created by three passionate mountain bikers for mountain bikers.

3. Eat, drink and ride

From the moment you embark from Heidelberg your every need is taken care of. From tented accommodation and all your meals to hot showers, beers and free Seattle Coffee to name but a few, you only need pedal from village to village.

4. Put your body and your spirit to the test

Nine days and 900km is no ride in the park. Riders put their bodies and minds to the test in a grueling adventure through the heart of South Africa. Arriving at the finish on the beach becomes both a physical and emotional triumph. joberg2c is the longest fully serviced stage ride in the world!

5. Relax and enjoy our hospitality

After a tough day out in the saddle, each race village provides a calm environment where you can refuel and recover for the next day’s ride. From homemade potjies, tender Karan Beef steaks and malva pudding to infinite variations of rusks, the food perfectly complements the unparalleled hospitality of these locals. The race villages, hosted by local communities alone will ensure that riders keep coming back every year.

6. Make a difference in these communities

joberg2c puts its communities first. The race has successfully uplifted every community through which it has travelled. Each race village is run by a school which has benefited dramatically before, during and after the race has passed through their area. Each seconding table along the route belongs to a different charitable organisation who benefits from the race in a way that ensures their support every year. Riders can be proud of their contribution to making a difference in the communities they ride through.

7. Ride alongside international riders

From unintelligible Italians to enthusiastic Canadians to some massive teams of English and crazy Belguims, the race has seen a myriad of nations join our riders in discovering the incredible country which the race explores. If you don’t believe us ask them they will tell you about this great ride!

8. Enjoy our sponsors

These guys do everything in their power every year to ensure the riders have an incredible experience. Aquelle water keeps the riders well-hydrated with post ride hydration. Avis Van Rental are logistical heroes by transporting rider’s bags and mattresses and working tirelessly into the night. The rider experience would be nothing without these guys.

9. Share your stories (and calm your FOMO)

If you suffer from Fear Of Missing Out, enter now! It’s a helluva adventure as one particular team of foreigners discovered the hard way after a single day of racing, no experience/tyre sealant, and fifty devil thorns later. Another rider got a brake lever through his calf but managed to continue to finish. What would a stage race be without the banter in the race villages after the long day and the homely atmosphere and vibe provided by the race organisers and their stories.

10. Escape ordinary life!

Just ride it. Riding your bike for nine days without a care in the world is something you need to experience. It is 9 days of escape from ordinary life to do the extra-ordinary.
